Titaan is een metaal met een hoge sterkte, een lage dichtheid en een hoge corrosiebestendigheid. Titaan kan net als iedere andere staalsoort worden gelast, bewerkt en gevormd. Titaan heeft een smeltpunttemperatuur van 1668°C, hoger dan die van staal, terwijl titaan toch de helft minder weegt dan roestvast staal. Vanwege zijn onovertrefbare sterkte en corrosiebestendigheid is titaan de het favoriete metaal voor ingenieurs in de lucht- en ruimtevaart, de petrochemie en de medische sector. De hogere sterkte van titaan geeft ingenieurs de mogelijkheid dunnere materialen te gebruiken, wat op zich weer kosten van grondstoffen en intern transport bespaart. Titaan wordt gebruikt in vliegtuigen voor motoren en frames, in de auto-industrie, petrochemie, medische implantaten, offshore buissystemen, ontziltingsinstallaties, pulp- en papierfabrieken en warmtewisselaars (buis- en compacte types) om er maar een paar te noemen. Titaan heeft zelfs zijn weg gevonden naar uw lokale winkelstraat, aangezien het populair is geworden bij kopers van brilmonturen, zonnebrillen, horloges en sieraden.
